I.          THE FISHING PARTY:

            A.        Headed by Peter; John 21:1-3

            B.         The miraculous catch; John 21:4-8

II.         “LOVEST THOU ME”: John 21:15-17

            A.        Love, the greatest act of God or man; John 3:16; I Corinthians 13:1

             1.         The greatest of Christian graces; I Corinthians 13:13; II Peter 1:5-7

             2.         Profession not enough; I John 3:18

            B.         “Thou” the greatest personal duty of man; I John 4:7-8

            1.         Love of others cannot save, personal

            2.         Church membership not enough; Matthew 6:33

            3.         John recorded; John 21:20-22

            4.         Individual obedience is imperative; Romans 6:17

            C.        “Me” the greatest deserver of our love;

                       1.         Jesus knew man’s need to love

                       2.         Peter had boasted of his love; Mark 14:27-31

                       3.         “Are you sure you love me?”

 

III.       “MORE THAN THESE”:

          A.        The objects of our love; business:

           1.         Fishermen; boats, nets, profit from these

           2.         Pleasure, popularity; II Timothy 4:10

           3.         Parents or children, mates; Matthew 10:37

         B.        “More than” demands a comparison and a decision; Matthew 5:20

                    1.     In spite of conflicts; Matthew 6:33-34

                    2.     “Feed my lambs”

        C.       Church members; Hebrews 13:1

 

CONCLUSION:

        A.        “Lovest thou me more than these”

        B.         If Jesus came to Bible Study would you be there?
