I. THE BOOK OF LIFE:
A. Term used figuratively to describe the genealogical record (registry) of God’s people taken for several purposes; Nehemiah 7:5
1. Names could be blotted out of the registry; when Moses sought to i ntervene for Israel, God stated; Exodus 32:30-33
2. In the New Testament the “book of life” is a register of those who will i nherit eternal life; Philippians 4:3
3. John wrote; Revelation 20:15
B. When the books are opened every individual will be judged; Revelation 20:12
II. HOW CAN I BE SURE “MY NAME IS IN THE BOOK OF LIFE”?
A. By obedience to the will of God; Matthew 7:21-23
1. The gospel is God’s power to save; Romans 1:16
2. The gospel includes baptism, entering into the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus; I Corinthians 15:1-4
3. Paul told the brethren at Rome; Romans 6:3-4
B. By faithful service to God; Revelation 2:10
C. John wrote; Revelation 21:27
III. “IS YOUR NAME WRITTEN THERE”?
A. Have you obeyed God’s plan of salvation? Matthew 11:28-30
1. Have you been washed in the soul-saving blood? Ephesians 2:13
2. Are you walking in the Spirit of God? Galatians 5:25
B. When you obey the gospel, you will be added to God’s registry; Acts 2:47
C. Are you doing the works of the Father? Revelation 20:12-15
1. James wrote; James 1:22
2. John tells us that every man will be judged by his own works;
Revelation 20:13
CONCLUSION:
A. When you stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ will you name be found in the lamb’s book of life?
B. Life is short, therefore it is urgent that we obey before it is too late; James 4:14
