DOING THE WORK OF THE FATHER
JOHN 9:1-7
INTRODUCTION:
A. Work has always been necessary to living:
1. God gave Adam work to do; Genesis 2:8, 15
2. After sinning Adam was told; Genesis 3:17-19
B. Jesus came to do the work of the Father; John 9:4
C. Paul told the brethren at Corinth to abound in work; I Corinthians 15:58
D. Our lesson deals with “Doing the Work of the Father”
I. JESUS KNEW THE IMPORTANCE OF DOING GOD’S WORK: John 9:4
A. He brought light into a world of sin; John 9:5
1. Jesus gave His followers a responsibility; Matthew 5:14
2. He stated; Matthew 5:16
B. The brethren at Philippi were told; Philippians 2:12
1. Through the works of obedience; Philippians 2:13-16
2. Jesus told His disciples; John 4:31-34
C. We are not assured of another opportunity to obey; I Thessalonians 5:3
1. James warned; James 4:14
2. Paul told the brethren at Corinth; II Corinthians 6:2
II. PAUL WROTE OF THE IMPORTANCE OF WORK: I Corinthians 15:58
A. Victory over sin and death comes through the resurrection; I Corinthians 15:57
B. Paul told the brethren to abound in work; I Corinthians 15:58
1. They were to be steadfast (faithful) in serving the Lord
2. Paul told the brethren at Colosse; Colossians 2:6-7

C. Working for the Lord brings a sure reward; I Corinthians 15:58; Romans 6:23
III. WORK ENDS WHEN WE LEAVE THIS WORLD: John 9:5
A. Jesus fulfilled His work in His death, burial, and resurrection; John 17:4
B. Christians must work faithfully in serving God; John 15:8
1. Jesus stated; John 10:17
2. In our text Jesus makes it clear; John 9:4
C. Man’s hope lies in Christ as we faithfully serve Him; Revelation 2:10
CONCLUSION:
