DEVELOPING A SPIRITUAL MIND

GALATIANS 5:16-26

 

INTRODUCTION:

            A.        The things of God are spiritually discerned; I Corinthians 2:14

             1.         Paul’s exhortation; Philippians 2:5

             2.         Rely on God; Philippians 4:19

             3.         To have a home in heaven one must; Hebrews 5:8-9; Matthew 7:21

            B.         The spiritual mind is “set on things above”:

              1.         A mind that thinks on heavenly things; Philippians 4:8

              2.         A humble mind; James 4:10; Philippians 2:5-9

            C.        Our lesson, “Developing A Spiritual Mind”

 

I.          WALKING IN THE SPIRIT:  Galatians 5:16-18

             A.        The Spirit and the flesh war; Galatians 5:17

              1.         The fleshly man cannot please God; I Corinthians 3:1-3

              2.         Walking after the flesh brings destruction; Galatians 5:19-21

              3.         “Cannot” continue in fleshly walk (ways); Galatians 5:17, 21

             B.         Must crucify (put to death) the fleshly man; Galatians 5:24; Romans 6:6-11       

 

II.         THE SPIRITUAL MIND HAS TO BE DEVELOPED:

            A.        Paul wrote; Philippians 2:5-8

            B.         To the Corinthians; II Corinthians 10:3-6; I Corinthians 2:14

            C.        Peter offers the process of development; II Peter 1:5-7

 

III.       RECOGNIZING THE SPIRITUAL MIND:  Galatians 5:22-26

           A.        The fruit of the Spirit is proof; Galatians 5:24-25

            1.         Not many fruits but fruit (singular

            2.         The spiritual man has developed the image of Christ; Philippians 2:5;                                     Romans 6:3-8

           B.         The Spiritual mind will:

             1.         Walk (live) in spiritual ways; Galatians 5:25

             2.         Walk in love; Galatians 5:22

             3.         Develop each characteristic of the fruit of God’s Spirit; Galatians 5:22-25

 

CONCLUSION:

              A.        Let us develop in ourselves a spiritual mind, so that we can make heaven our                                  home

              B.         Have we truly “set” our affection on things above?
