A FINAL MESSAGE

ACTS 20:25-38

INTRODUCTION:

A.  Paul lived a life that would end in eternal glory; II Timothy 4:6-8

      1.  He encouraged others to live righteously; I Timothy 6:12

      2.  John also encouraged a faithful life; Revelation 2:10b

B.  Paul preached the word and encouraged others to do the same; Acts 20:27

C.  Our text is Paul’s farewell address to the elders from Ephesus

D.  Our study is “A Final Message”

I.  PAUL’S MINISTRY WILL SOON COME TO END:

A.  He reminds the elders of their time together; Acts 20:25

B.  He declares himself free of the blood of all men; Acts 20:26

      1.  He has faithfully guided men to the truth; Acts 20:27

      2.  He had warned of the wrath of God on disobedience; Ezekiel 3:18-19

C.  Paul then warns the elders concerning the future of the church; Acts 20:28

II.  A CLOSER LOOK AT PAUL’S WARNING:

A.  “Take heed to yourselves”; Acts 20:28

      1.  Their first duty as an example to the flock; I Peter 5:3

      2.  Godly qualities would be a role model for all; I Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9

B.  Take heed “to all the flock” as spiritual guides; Acts 20:28

      1.  As Paul was free so the elders should keep themselves free of the blood of the flock; Acts 20:27-28

      2.  Grievous wolves and perverse teachings; Acts 20:29-30;

      3.  Stay alert and remember what you have learned; Acts 20:31

III.  PAUL’S COMMENDATION AND FINAL ACTIONS:

A.  “I commend you to God”; Acts 20:32

B.  “And to the word of His grace”; Acts 20:32

C.  The word would build them up and bring them into “an inheritance among the sanctified”; Acts 20:32

      1.  “Sanctified” – “set apart for a holy purpose”

      2.   A home in heaven; Matthew 25:34

CONCLUSION:

A.  Paul’s prayer and the tears of all; Acts 20:37-38

B.  Are you/we prepared to spend eternity with the saints?
