INTRODUCTION:

            A.        Power for Christian living can be found in assembling with those of like faith:

                        1.         To draw near to God; Hebrews 10:22; James 4:7; I Corinthians 10:13

                        2.         Gives strength to self and others in the assembly; Hebrews 10:25; I John 4:11

            B.        Our study “What Happens When I Forsake The Assembly?”

 

I.          WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FORSAKE THE ASSEMBLY?

            A.        Greek words:

                        1.         “Ēgkatalĕipō” – “leaving behind (in a good sense); deserting, forsaking, leaving (in a bad way)” Strong’s Concordance

                                     Webster’s Dictionary defines forsaking “giving up; renouncing; leaving off (habitually)”

                        2.         “Ēpisunagōgē” – “meeting, (for worship); assembling (gathering together)”

            B.        The writer of the letter to the Hebrews exhorts; Hebrews 10:24-25

 

II.        WHY SHOULD CHRISTIANS NOT FORSAKE THE ASSEMBLY?    

           A.        The Spirit of Grace tells us not to; Titus 2:11-12; Hebrews 10:25

           B.         To do so is to sin in a willful way; Hebrews 10:26

                       1.         Forsaking the assembly is a symptom of a deeper problem; Hebrews 10:28; I John 5:3; 2:15-17; Matthew 6:33

                        2.         Forsaking the assembly robs others of your loving consideration and exhortation; Hebrews 10:24

            C.        To forsake the gatherings (assembling) allows Satan to gain access; James 4:1-10

 

III.       CONSEQUENCES OF FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLY:

            A.        The Son of God is trodden underfoot; Hebrews 10:29-31

            B.        The Spirit of grace is despised; Hebrews 10:29

            C.        Judgment is sure and sin will be punished; Hebrews 10:27, 30

            D.       The author warns; Hebrews 10:31

 

CONCLUSION:

           A.          To make heaven our home; Philippians 2:5

           B.           Other scriptures; Galatians 5:22-24

            C.          Let us truly seek first the kingdom of God, lest we fall; II Peter 1:10
