Today Is The Day Of Salvation

What does tomorrow hold for me? No one can know if there will be a tomorrow or if they will live to see tomorrow. Paul understood that his time on earth was short. He wrote, “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (II Timothy 4:6-8 NKJV). Life is but a short time between two eternities. James wrote, “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin” (James 4:13-17 NKJV).

Palmer E Wheeler, in 1970, wrote the song “Tomorrow May Be Too Late.” He stated, “Today is the day of salvation, Tomorrow may be too late. There’s danger and death in delaying, Accept God’s saving grace; His life on the Cross He has given, O come while yet you may, He’s earnestly pleading, O make no delay, Tomorrow may be too late.” We cannot know the exact moment when the Lord will come. Jesus spoke of the end of time stating, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be” (Matthew 24:35-37). Jesus also taught that it was a dangerous thing to face death without obeying the will go God. He told the multitude “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:21-23 NKJV).

Mr. Wheeler wrote, “Today is the day of salvation, Tomorrow may be too late. The judgment day, brother, is coming, Prepare ye for that day; His pardon and mercy He offers, obey while yet ye may, He’ll save you from sin and bring sweet peace within, Tomorrow may be too.”  Paul wrote to the brethren at Corinth telling them “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences” (II Corinthians 5:10, 11). In the letter to the Hebrews we are told, “For we know Him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto Me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge His people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:30-31).

In his song Mr. Wheeler states, “Today is the day of salvation, Tomorrow may be too late,  A home up in heaven is waiting, O make the start today; Repent and confess and be baptized, There is no other way, Give Jesus your life and thus walk in His way, Tomorrow may be too late.” We cannot know the day or the hour when the Lord will return, but we can prepare for that day. Jesus stated, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” (John 14:1-6). Jesus chose “the gospel” as his means for saving man (Romans 1:16-18).

The inspired writer tells us that we must give our lives to Jesus if we want to make heaven our home, (Romans 12:1-2). Jesus calls for all of mankind to accept His will and be saved. Jesus stated, “Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Have you obeyed “the gospel of Christ?” “Tomorrow May Be Too Late!” A New Year has just begun, why not start it out as a Child of God?
