Description

INTRODUCTION:
 

            A.        Christians are to edify one another through love and joint participation;

  I Thessalonians 5:11; Ephesians 4:16

                        1.         Greek word “ŏikŏdŏmē” – “confirmation; building (up); edify (ing)”

                        2.         Proper worship enjoins on its’ participants correct living and will build up the family of God

            B.         Coming together as God’s family is one way God has given for us to provoke in each other love and good works;                            Hebrews 10:22-24

            C.         Our study “Edifying Through Worship”

 

I.          PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP:

            A.        The song: “Is Thy Heart Right With God?” Proverbs 28:9

                        1.         To be right with God, one must be in Christ; Galatians 3:27

                        2.         To be right one must be faithful in his service; Revelation 2:10

            B.         To prepare for worship one must be at peace with ones’ fellows; Matthew 5:23- 24; Romans 12:18

            C.         It has been said, “Two men cannot hate each other if both of them love God”.

                        1.         God, through the prophet Amos, asked; Amos 3:3

                        2.         Jesus taught; Matthew 5:24

            D.        Provide the right atmosphere: Hebrews 12:28

                        1.         A quiet and reverent place; Psalm 46:10

                        2.         A plan for service; I Corinthians 14:40

                        3.         We must assume that all have come to worship and not to socialize

 

II.         TO EDIFY ONE ANOTHER THROUGH WORSHIP:

            A.         Worship must be directed to God; Matthew 4:10

                         1.         Worship is not to idols or for fleshly pleasure; Acts 17:29

                         2.         Worship will not glorify and praise men, but God; I Corinthians 10:31

            B.         For worship to edify, it must be in spirit and truth; John 4:24

                        1. Worship with reverence and godly fear; Hebrews 12:28

                        2.         Worship goes far beyond cold formality; it involves the spirit of the man wrapped in the things of God;                                         Romans 1:9

            C.         Worship in truth will follow the path that God has directed:

                        1.         Each act of worship has been given in the word; II Timothy 4:2

                        2.         Each member should rejoice in every opportunity to worship; Psalm 122:1

 

CONCLUSION:

            A.        Let us edify one another at every opportunity:  Renewing faith and improving lives

            B.         To worship God and edify one another, we must set our minds on things above
