INTRODUCTION:

          A.      God has always revealed His will to mankind; Hebrews 1:1-2

          B.      The old covenant was given to Moses and Israel; it pointed men to Christ;  Hebrews 8:6-7; Galatians 3:16

          C.      The new covenant is to endure until the end of time:

                   1.      It will bring forgiveness and salvation; Romans 1:16-17

                   2.      It was fully revealed through the apostles; II Peter 1:3-4

                   3.      Jesus gave us the perfect example of obedience; Hebrews 5:8-9

                   4.      The Lord gives salvation to all who obey Him; II Thessalonians 1:7-9

          D. Our study today is “Following Christ”

I. JESUS IS OUR HOPE FOR SALVATION:

          A.      He gave us an example of complete obedience; Hebrews 5:8-9; Philippians 2:8

          B.      The gospel of Christ is His power to save; Romans 1:16-18

                  1.      Man offers many avenues; “Pray through” “Invite Jesus into your heart”; “A small voice”

                  2.      Jesus offers one pathway; John 14:6; Romans 1:16

                  3.      Jesus stated; Matthew 7:13-14

II. THE CALL OF JESUS: Matthew 11:28-30

          A.      A call to obedience; Matthew 7:21

          B.      Becoming a child of God; Galatians 3:26-27; John 1:12

          C.       Called by the gospel; II Thessalonians 2:14

          D.      God’s plan; Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:6; Luke 13:3; Matthew 10:32-33; Mark 16:16; Acts 22:16; Revelation 2:10

III. CHRIST IS SEEN IN LOVING OBEDIENCE:

          A.      Obedience is better than sacrifice; I Samuel 15:22

                   1.       Saul’s sin cost him the kingdom; I Samuel 15:58

                   2.      Solomon’s sin made his life vain; Ecclesiastes 2:11; (Read I Kings chapters 2-3)

                   3. Sins of a Christian, not repented of, will cost one his soul; Galatians 5:4

        B.         Paul pointed out to the haughty brethren at Corinth; I Corinthians 12:31

CONCLUSION:

        A. There is only one way of salvation; John 14:6; Romans 1:16; Matthew 7:21

        B. Nothing but loving obedience can save us; I Corinthians 13:1-3

        C. Will you submit your life to Christ who loved you enough that He gave His life for you?
