INTRODUCTION:

            A.        The condition of the soul of a sinner demands the power of God to save:

                        1.         The sinner is a bond-servant to sin; Romans 6:17-18

                        2.         He is dead in his sin; Ephesians 2:1; Luke 15:32

                        3.         Sinners are captives of Satan; II Timothy 2:24-26

            B.        God will have to save man if he is to be saved; I Timothy 4:10

                        1.         He uses the power He has chosen; Romans 1:16

                        2.         God’s power for all; I Timothy 2:4; II Timothy 4:2

            C.        The gospel is the power which God chose for saving man

            D.        Our lesson; “Why The Gospel Will Not Save Everyone”

I.          THE POWER IS THROUGH THE REVEALED WORD:  Romans 1:16

            A.        The gospel reveals God’s righteousness: Romans 1:17

                        1.         Reveals how God makes man righteous by justification

and forgiveness; Leviticus 17:11; Hebrews 9:11-14

                        2.         Two things working together make men righteous; Romans 3:23-26

                        3.         People are often ignorant of God’s way; Romans 10:1-3

            B.        The unrighteousness of man is revealed in the gospel; Romans 1:18; 3:23; John 3:16; Romans 5:6-9

            C.        The wrath of God is also revealed; Romans 1:18; 2:1-2; 6:23

II.        THE GOSPEL DOES NOT SAVE BECAUSE MANY REFUSE TO BELIEVE:  Romans 1:16

           A.          Refuse to believe the reality of sin; Romans 3:23

           B.          Failure to believe does not nullify the gospel;  just its power; Mark 16:16;

                        Romans 3:3-4

III.       WHY DO MEN REFUSE TO BELIEVE THE GOSPEL?

           A.          Human vanity:  Pride; I Corinthians 1:19-24; Romans 1:22

                        1.         Cares and pleasure; Luke 8:13

                        2.         False interpretations of the word; II Corinthians 4:2

            B.        The gospel has often been perverted; I Corinthians 15:1-4; Galatians 1:6-9

CONCLUSION:

            A.       The gospel is still God’s power to save; Romans 1:16

            B.       We must believe and obey the gospel in order to be saved; Romans 10:16
