            B.        A long list of others; Hebrews 11:20-38

I.          “LAYING ASIDE THE WEIGHT OF SIN”:  Hebrews 12:1

            A.        All sin and therefore have need for atonement; Romans 3:23; 6:23

                        1.         Atonement is found only in Jesus; Romans 5:11

                        2.         John wrote; I John 2:1-2

            B.        James warned of the consequences of sin; James 1:14-15

                        1.         James then stated; James 1:16

                        2.         John wrote; I John 2:3-5

            C.        God requires us to lay aside our wicked ways; Ephesians 4:21-22

 

II.        LAYING ASIDE THE WEIGHTS CALLS FOR RENEWAL: Ephesians 4:23

            A.        Paul wrote; Romans 12:2

            B.        Lay aside the old and be renewed in holiness; Ephesians 4:24

                        1.         A new creation; II Corinthians 5:17

                        2.         Created in the image of Christ; Colossians 3:10

 

III.       LAYING ASIDE THE WEIGHTS IS NECESSARY TO WINNING THE PRIZE;         Hebrews 12:1

            A.        Paul told the brethren at Corinth; I Corinthians 9:24-25

            B.        With the grace and help of God all can win; Hebrews 12:2-3

                        1.         Paul told the brethren at Philippi; Philippians 4:13

                        2.         In his second letter to Timothy Paul stated; II Timothy 4:6-8

                        3.         Peter wrote; I Peter 5:7

            C.        Jesus offers His help; Matthew 11:28-30

            D.        “Laying Aside the Weights” requires effort; Hebrews 12:4

 

CONCLUSION:

            A.        Jesus is our example and our hope; Hebrews 12:2-3

            B.        Will you obey the gospel and receive His help?  Romans 1:16-18
