INTRODUCTION:

            A.        Definitions:

                        1.         “Restore” – “to gain back”

                        2.         “Erring” – “Those having gone astray/having left the way

            B.        This work of restoring the erring belongs to every Christian

 

  I.        WHAT CAUSES PEOPLE TO ERR?

            A.        Ignorance (lack of knowledge); Mark 12:24; I Timothy 6:21

            B.        Some are deceived; I John 4:1-6

            C.        Spiritual weakness; Matthew 26:41

D.        Covetousness; I Timothy 6:10; Jude 11

E.         Association; I Corinthians 15:33

F.         Indifference (a lack of concern); Revelation 3:14-19; James 4:17

 

 II.       WHAT SHOULD WE DO FOR THE ERRING?

            A.        Warn them; I Thessalonians 5:14

            B.        Admonish them; II Thessalonians 3:15

C.        Pray for them; James 5:16

D.        Convert them; James 5:19-20

  E.         Restore them; Galatians 6:1-2

F.         Withdraw from them if they refuse to repent; II Thessalonians 3:6;

            I Corinthians 5:9-11

 

III.       IN ORDER TO RETURN THE ERRING MUST:

            A.        Repent; Acts 8:22

            B.        Confess sins; James 5:16; I John 1:9

C.        Pray; Acts 8:22; I John 2:1-2

 

 IV.      OUR DUTY AFTER THE ERRING RETURNS:

            A.        Forgive them; II Corinthians 2:7; Matthew 6:14-15

            B.        Love them; II Corinthians 2:8

            C.        Comfort them; II Corinthians 2:7

 

CONCLUSION:

            A.        Helping the weak will aid even the strongest; Hebrews 12:12

            B.        All have need of a Savior; are you doing your part in restoring the erring?
