INTRODUCTION:

            A.        Man’s sense of flavor and smell are very important:

                        1.         Paul pointed out the importance of every part of the body;

                                    I Corinthians 12:14-17

                        2.         Some things seem more appetizing than others because of flavor and fragrance

            B.        The Bible describes the Christian in relationship to flavor and fragrance;

                        II Corinthians 2:15-16

            C.        How do we measure up in “Flavor and Fragrance” to God?

 

I.          GOD HAS AN INTEREST IN TASTE AND SMELLS:

            A.        Noah’s sacrifice was a “sweet smell”; Genesis 8:21

            B.        Sacrifices made by the Priest; Exodus 29:18

            C.        The grain offering described; Leviticus 2:2

            D.        Israel’s sacrifice after entering the Promised Land; Numbers 15:1-3

 

II.        CHRISTIANS ARE THE “FRAGRANCE OF CHRIST”:  II Corinthians 2:14-16

            A.        “Fragrance” the same word used when Mary anointed Jesus; John 12:3

            B.        Christians are to make the world “smell good” for God; II Corinthians 2:15

                        1.         An odor to both the saved and unsaved; II Corinthians 2:16

                        2.         We must not corrupt the word; II Corinthians 2:17; Matthew 5:20

            C.        Christ’s sacrifice is our example; Ephesians 5:2

            D.        The gift of the Philippian brethren; Philippians 4:18

 

III.       CHRISTIANS ARE THE “SALT OF THE EARTH”: Matthew 5:13

            A.        The preaching of the gospel is a preservative to the world; Mark 16:15-16

            B.        Bearing one another’s burdens can save souls; Galatians 6:1-3

            C.        Christians will set the example for others; Matthew 7:12

            D.        Living in peace gives a pleasant taste to society; Mark 9:50

 

CONCLUSION:

            A.        The sacrifice of obeying Christ makes the Christian smell good; James 1:22

                        1.         Paul wrote; II Corinthians 2:14-17

                        2.         Sin causes one to smell bad to God; Proverbs 6:16

            B.        How do you smell to God?

                        1.         Have you obeyed the gospel? Romans 1:16

                        2.         Are you living faithfully as a Christian? Proverbs 8:7
