Proverbs 31:10-20

INTRODUCTION:

            A.        One of the sweetest words in any language:

                        1.         “May-tar” Greek = “a mother” or “mother”

                        2.         The wise man wrote; Proverbs 31:10-11, 27-28

            B.         Today the world remembers – “Mother’s Day”

  I.        A LOOK AT MOTHERS:

            A.        Appears to be different in each stage of a child’s life:

                        1.         To a baby:  A protector; I Kings 3:16-28 (relate)

                        2.         An adolescent:  A healing angel

                        3.         A teen:  An ogre

                        4.         To a bride or groom:  A helper or an organizer

                        5.         In middle age:  The sweetest person on earth

            B.         “The hand that rocks the cradle”

                        1.         A godly mother is a blessing; Proverbs 31:27-28

                        2.         A godless mother will bring destruction; Ezekiel 16:3, 44

 II.        GODLY MOTHERS OF THE BIBLE:

            A.        The mother of Moses, Jochebed; Exodus 2:1-10

            B.         Samuel’s mother, Hannah; 1 Samuel 1:1-3:21

            C.        John Baptists’ mother, Elizabeth; Luke 1:1-80

            D.        The mother of Jesus, Mary; Matthew 1:1-25; Luke 1:1-80

            E.         All had one thing, God, in common; godly women;

III.       THE ROLE OF MOTHERS IN THE SCRIPTURE:

            A.        The wise king wrote of a godly mother; Proverbs 31:27-28

            B.         Train the younger women; Titus 2:3-5

            C.        A prodigal mother:  Jerusalem in sin; Ezekiel 16:2-3, 43-44;

CONCLUSION:

            A.        A godly mother is to be praised; Proverbs 31:27-28

            B.         Let us thank God for godly mothers
