INTRODUCTION:

            A.         Jesus is the central theme of the whole message of God:
                        1.          He is the promised seed; Genesis 3:15; Galatians 3:16
                        2.          He is “the Lamb of God” slain for sinful man; Revelation 5:11-12
                        3.          His death was necessary; Romans 5:8-9
           B. Paul writes of the testimony of God and his power through the crucified Christ
           C. Our subject, “Preaching Christ Crucified”
 
I. THE WISDOM OF GOD:
           A.         Was “hidden” wisdom, ordained before the world; I Corinthians 2:6-9
           B.          Paul states that it is now revealed; I Corinthians 2:10-13
           C.          Is foolishness to those who perish; I Corinthians 1:18; 2:2
           D.         Can only be discerned by the spiritual mind; I Corinthians 2:14-16
           E.          Paul determined to know nothing “save, Jesus Christ, and Him crucified”; I Corinthians 2:2
 
II. A LOOK AT THE CONTEXT:
          A.           Paul wrote to a troubled church:
                         1.          Contention and division; I Corinthians 1:10-17
                         2.          Sin in their midst; I Corinthians 5:1-13
                         3.          A long list: I Corinthians chapters 6-11
          B. In the midst of troubles Paul chose Jesus, the wisdom and power of God; I Corinthians 2:1-5
 
III. PAUL PREACHED, NOT HUMAN WISDOM, BUT REVEALED TRUTH: I Corinthians 2:10-12
          A.           Jesus had stated that truth would set men free; John 8:31-32
          B.           Jesus promised His apostles “all truth”; John 16:13
          C.           To “set” our “affection on things above” we must accept Christ and His word; Romans 1:16; John 12:48
 
CONCLUSION:
          A.          If one’s final goal is to be in heaven, he will heed the whole counsel of God; Acts 20:26-32
          B.         Let us develop within ourselves the mind of Christ; I Corinthians 2:14-16
