           A.        Romans 12 shows the real issue facing Christians; Romans 12:21

           B.        We know the power of the gospel to save man; Romans 1:16-17

                        1.         An application of this fact; Romans 12:21

                        2.         God’s people are to “shine as lights in the world” Philippians 2:14-16

            C.        Our study “Christian Influence”

 

 I.         MAN’S GREATEST PROBLEM; CONFORMING TO THE WORLD:

            A.        Greek word – “Sus-kay-mah-tee-zes-theh” = “To fashion in accordance with; to conform or assimilate; to mold with a form”

            B.        The Phillips translation states; “Don’t let the world pour you into its form.” Romans 12:1

            C.        William Barclay wrote; “Don’t let the world decide what you are going to be like”

            D.        World/age = “A period of time, marked in the New Testament by spiritual or moral characteristics”

                        1.         Modern age marked by great unbelief; Romans 12:2

                        2.         An age with few or no standards; James 4:17; Hebrews 13:8

                        3.         An age of self-worship; Romans 12:3

            E.         Conformity to the world makes a de-formed Christian (Not a true Christian); I Timothy 6:3-5

 

II.        PRESENTING THE BODY TO GOD:  Romans 12:1

            A.       A living sacrifice; Give oneself completely

            B.       God’s people are to be holy; separate from the world

                      1.         An imperative; Hebrews 12:14

                      2.        “Come out” II Corinthians 6:17; 7:1

                      3.         The transformation; Ephesians 4:17, 22-32

            C.       Becoming acceptable to God; Romans 6:12-13

 

III.       PROVING THE WORD; Romans 12:2

            A.       In the text; “Good, acceptable, perfect”; I Timothy 2:3  

            B.        Prove = “Argue; as a lawyer”; I John 2:1-2

            C.        Prove = “Test or verify”; General motors proving ground

            D.        Prove = “To demonstrate (by obedience)”: Matthew 5:16

 

CONCLUSION:

            A.        Will we overcome or be overcome? Romans 12:21
