Getting The Sunday Boost

GETTING THE SUNDAY BOOST
ACTS 20:7-12

INTRODUCTION:

     A.    What does Sunday mean to you?
     B.    For some:
           1.    A psychological Sabbath: Has become the last day, a day of rest
           2.    “A hurry, worry, work-a-day” to close out the week
     C.    How does God look at Sunday?  “Getting The Sunday Boost”?

I.    SUNDAY:  THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK:

      A.    The first day was always important to God:
            1.    Major work of creation done then; Genesis 1:1-5
            2.    Christ rose on the first day; Matthew 28:1
     B.    First day was important to Israel; Leviticus 23:9-16
           1.    “The morrow after the Sabbath”; Leviticus 23:11
                 a.    The tradition began after the institution of the Passover;
                        Leviticus 23:14-15
                 b.    “Feast of the Unleavened Bread; Feast of the First-fruits; Feast of Pentecost”
           2.    Israel was kept aware of the “morrow after the Sabbath” which implied a walk with                         God all week

II.    SUNDAY FOR THE EARLY CHURCH:

       A.    “First Day” worship; Acts 20:7; I Corinthians 16:2
       B.    Definitely associated with the resurrection; John 20:19, 20
             1.    Remembering the Lord; Acts 20:7, 11
             2.    Pattern began on the “first day” and carried throughout the week; Acts 2:1;                                     “
the morrow after the Sabbath”

III.    GETTING THE SUNDAY BOOST:

       A.    First day worship sets the pace for the week; Matthew 6:33
       B.    Modern day practice has robbed the church of the “Sunday Boost”;                                                 II Peter 1:5-7; II Timothy 2:15; Acts 2:42-43, 46-47

CONCLUSION:

       A.    Are you taking advantage of  “Getting The Sunday Boost?
       B.    Perhaps your week will go better if you begin it with God; Psalm 118:24
       C.    Let the mid-week service narrow the gap from Sunday to Sunday
