EXPECTING THE IMPOSSIBLE
MATTHEW 7:15-20

INTRODUCTION:
             A.    “Impossible is not a word we like to hear:
                   1.        Used nine times in the New Testament:  Jesus stated; Luke 1:37
                   2.        The disciples asked, “Who then can be saved?”  Matthew 19:25
                   3.         Jesus told them; Matthew 19:26
            B.    In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus stated; Matthew 7:15
            C.     Man sometimes expects the impossible in spiritual matters
            D.     Our study “Expecting The Impossible”

I.          THE NON-CHRISTIAN OFTEN EXPECTS THE IMPOSSIBLE:
            A.    Salvation without faith; Hebrews 11:6
                   1.          Jesus stated; John 8:24
                   2.          James told the brethren; James 1:22
            B.    God’s favor without repentance; II Corinthians 7:10
                   1.          Jesus said; Luke 13:3
                   2.          Peter wrote; II Peter 3:9
            C.    Remission of sin without obedience; Romans 6:17

II.    THE INDIVIDUAL CHRISTIAN OFTEN EXPECTS THE IMPOSSIBLE:
            A.         Satisfaction without sacrifice; Romans 12:1
            B.         Salvation without a demonstrated faith; James 2:17
                        1.         Paul wrote; Philippians 2:12
                        2.         Jesus stated; Matthew 7:21
            C.         God’s love without His chastening; Hebrews 12:6
            D.         To receive the fullness of God’s blessings each person must keep himself pure;                                Psalm 24:3-5

III.    THE LOCAL CHURCH OFTEN EXPECTS THE IMPOSSIBLE:
            A.         Many murmur and complain about a lack of growth; Matthew 28:19-20
                        1.       These fail to bear fruit for Christ; Romans 7:4
                        2.        Jesus stated; Matthew 7:19
            B.         Many expect joy and peace without zeal; Romans 12:2
            C.         Some expect unity without effort; Psalm 133:1
                       1.         Unity requires effort on the part of every member; Ephesians 4:3
                       2.         Jesus prayed; John 17:21
                       3.         Paul wrote; I Corinthians 1:10

CONCLUSION:
            A.         Both Christian and non-Christian people often expect the impossible
            B.         God, when met on His terms, can make all things possible; Philippians 4:13
            C.         Will you obey the will of God and allow Him to save you?
